Are you at risk for identity theft and a medical records breach? Amednews.com reported that hackers target smaller medical practices because they typically lack the more costly security measures that larger practices and other health care institutions have in place.
The Privacy Rights Clearinghouse Sensitive issued a December 2011 report that estimated that three of the six largest data breaches in 2011 were at health care organizations, compromising 11 million patient records.
These breaches often reveal sensitive financial and medical information that makes it easier for hackers to steal patients’ identities, ultimately often costing the practice notification and reimbursement charges and loss of income for patients.
